NFC Wax Seals: The Wedding Invitation You Can Tap

I’m so excited to introduce NFC wax seals for wedding & event invitations, combining a fan favourite traditional stationery detail, with a very modern technology.

So, what is an NFC wax seal?

An NFC wax seal is a traditional wax seal with a tiny NFC chip hidden inside.

NFC stands for Near Field Communication. In this case, it allows a smartphone (iPhone or Android) to read a digital link when it's held close to the wax seal.

That link could take your guests to your:

• Guest RSVP site
• Your General wedding website
• Wedding registry link
• Or basically, any webpage you want them to see!

For a wedding invitation, the most obvious use is: Tap to RSVP.

How does an NFC wedding invitation work?

Your NFC wax seal can be programmed with your chosen URL link and incorporated into your wedding stationery.

Your guest receives the invitation, holds their compatible smartphone on the wax seal, and their phone recognizes the NFC tag and opens the link.

That’s it!

And because the technology is hidden inside the wax seal, your invitation can still look exactly the way you want it to.

Why NFC instead of a QR code?

Firstly I’ll preface by saying, I have nothing against QR codes. They're useful! But they can be a little tricky to incorporate into a luxury wedding invitation without making them feel like... well, a QR code.

An NFC wax seal keeps the technology out of sight. And, you get the beautiful impression of the sealing wax, the texture and that satisfying cherry on top of your invitation.

Does an NFC wax seal work with iPhone and Android?

Sure does! NFC is supported by iPhone and Android devices, although the exact experience can vary between phones.

As with any new stationery feature, testing is important. I test every single wax seal before they are shipped to ensure they work.

However — I strongly recommend adding a little note over/under your NFC Wax Seal to say something like “Tap wax seal with your phone to RSVP” so that your guests know what to do.

The best part? It still feels like luxury stationery.

This is really why I wanted to offer NFC wax seals for weddings and events.

My clients are stationery people. They love beautiful paper, thoughtful typography, gorgeous envelopes and all the little details that make an invitation feel special. I wanted to find a way for the ease of QR code technology to quietly become part of the design, not take away from it. And wax seals turned out to be the perfect hiding place.
